The 2nd race of the BVI Mountain Bike Club Cadet Series took place on Sunday 31st May.

27 Cadets showed for the start and put on some fast and exciting racing for the large
number of spectators that were supporting them.

With the Cadet series focusing on developing new riders in a safe racing environment
the HLSCC course providing a challenging course with mixed terrains for the young
    riders to contend with.

Riders completed 5 laps  of the .75 mile course on a mix of paved, grass and gravel
    surfaces.

After a Parade lap to show everyone the route, the riders lined up for a mass start and the
group quickly spread out as the lap progressed.  With Mekiel Robin taking an early lead
in the and chased by Devonte Furlonge, Jude Kinkead, James Nicholas and William
    Adamson.

William Adamson took a fall at the end of the first lap and lost some places whilst he
remounted his bike, but like his Caribbean Champion mother he pushed hard and
regained the lost places. However he couldn't quite catch the fast moving front runners
and Mekiel Robin taking first place ahead of Devonte Furlonge and Jude Kinkead.

Orlando Savory was also providing some competition for the younger riders but as he is
14 was not elligible to enter the race but he rode hard and pushed the other riders to
    challenge him.

The Girls class also provided some exciting racing with Nakisha Savory winning her first
race closely followed by Meg & Ella Thompson and Emily Abrehart just missing out on a
medal in 4th place. The girls class is proving to be a competitve as the boys with the girls
    all challenging each other.

In the special under 8 Class, George Mcintyre took the victory in the 3 lap race, with
Natalie Fay getting 2nd place and Sam Childs in 3rd and John Cullimore having to settle
    for 4th place.

After the race, the top 3 Girls and Boys all received medals from Club President Mark
Smith who said "It's amazing to see the kids coming out and racing so competitively and
to hear the conversations after the race between them all of how the race went, they are
really getting into and the turn outs are exceeding my expectations, hopefully we'll be
able to keep up the momentum and interest with the next races, it's already at the stage
where we're going to have to start having separate races for the age groups so that we
can keep everybody safe and get the kids competing against each other on a more equal
    footing"
