Cadet Series Race 1 - Cruise Ship Dock

    21 Cadets showed for the First race of the BVI Mountain Bike Club Cadet series.

    Xante Chalwell was first over the line in the boys division to lead a Chalwell family
    domination of the top 3 places in what turned out to be a fast and exciting race. In the
    Girls race Meg Thompson took first place ahead of Emily Abrehart and Ella Thompson.

    The course was 12 laps around the all flat area next to the Cruise Ship Dock on Wickams
    Cay. With no hills or traffic to contend with Xante set the initial fast pace right from the
    start with Kian and Jaeden close behind. As the race progressed though Xante opened up
    a gap between himself and the rest of the pack and was a lap ahead by the finish.

    Meg & Emily meanwhile had their own battle in the girls race with Meg eventually
    winning.

    Other notable rides came from Luca, in the under 8's race, who completed 9 laps and
    Tallulah Kinkead who just wanted to carry on riding !!!

    Speaking at the end of the race, Club President, Mark Smith said "The turn-out for the
    race was fantastic and we were missing a few riders who were sick or off island, this
    series should be see some exciting race and all of the Children are so competitive, it's
    refreshing to see that they want to race each other. These Children are the future of
    Cycling in the BVI and we need to encourage them as mush as possible to get out to
    these races which will build a foundation for them moving into the Junior Classes at the
    other races held in the island".

    The club plans to hold a training session before the next race to teach the Cadets some
    racing skills including how to use their gears properly and some basic racing tips.

    The next Cadet race is on the 31st May at HLSCC. Races are open to 8 - 12 year olds and
    there are no entry fees, Cadets will also receive free membership of the BVI Mountain
    Bike Club.
